Heroes are Human – Naomi’s Story

May 12, 2021

Tracking the pandemic earlier than most, Dr. JB’s hospital was fortunate enough never to feel entirely overwhelmed by COVID-19. But that did not stop the events of 2020 from taking their toll on herself and colleagues at their Orlando hospital. The impact became even more substantial when the news broke on national tv of the suicide of emergency room physician and personal mentor, Dr. Lorna Breen. Often complex and disheartening, Naomi recounts her experience with patients at their final moments with families and the practices she put in place to keep herself mentally well. In this episode, Dr. JB shares stories of watching the struggles and difficulties of patients and hospital staff, and the inspiration for her own company addressing healthcare worker burnout and well-being, Hope 4 Med.
